Post Aesthetic Treatment Care

Post-Treatment Care After Aesthetic Treatment in Malaysia: What to Do After Your Procedure

Considering an aesthetic treatment in Malaysia? Your care after the procedure is just as important as the treatment itself.

Whether you have had a laser treatment, skin booster, RF microneedling, HIFU, chemical peel or another aesthetic procedure, your skin may need time to recover.

Knowing what to do and what to avoid after your treatment can help support the recovery process and reduce unnecessary irritation.

At HATSU Clinic, we believe aesthetic care should not end when you leave the clinic. Proper post-treatment guidance is an important part of the overall treatment journey.

Why Is Post-Treatment Care Important?

Professional aesthetic treatments work in different ways. Some procedures deliver energy to deeper layers, while others involve controlled injury to the skin.

Because of this, it is normal for some treatments to cause temporary changes such as:

  • Redness
  • Mild swelling
  • Sensitivity
  • Tenderness
  • Dryness & Tightness
  • Mild peeling or flaking
  • Temporary marks over injection-site

These reactions vary from person to person and depend on the type and intensity of treatment.

Post-treatment care aims to provide the treated area with a suitable environment to recover.

The First 24–72 Hours: What Should You Do?

While aftercare varies between procedures, some general principles may include the following.

1. Keep the Treated Area Clean

For treatments that temporarily make the skin more sensitive, using a gentle cleanser and avoiding unnecessary rubbing may be recommended.

Try not to:

  • Touch the treated area repeatedly
  • Scratch the skin
  • Pick at peeling or irritated areas
  • Rub injection sites
  • Use rough towels or cleansing tools

2. Keep Your Skincare Routine Simple

After certain aesthetic procedures, your usual skincare routine need to be temporarily simplified.

A basic routine may include: Gentle cleansing → moisturiser → sunscreen

Temporarily avoiding active ingredients such as:

  • Retinoids
  • Exfoliating acids (AHAs, BHAs)
  • Strong exfoliants
  • Scrubs
  • Other strong active ingredients

3. Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Sun protection is an important part of post-treatment care, as skin tend to be more sensitive temporarily. UV exposure can contribute to pigmentation and skin damage.

After treatment:

  • Use appropriate broad-spectrum sunscreen
  • Reapply sunscreen as recommended
  • Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure
  • Be especially careful during outdoor activities

4. Avoid Excessive Heat When Advised

Some treatments may require you to temporarily avoid activities that generate significant heat.

Depending on your procedure, these may include:

  • Sauna
  • Steam rooms
  • Hot baths
  • Other activities involving significant heat

5. Be Careful With Exercise

Exercise is not necessarily restricted after every aesthetic treatment.

However, some procedures may require you to temporarily reduce or avoid strenuous exercise.

This may be particularly relevant after certain injectable treatments or procedures that temporarily affect the skin.

Factors such as:

  • Sweating
  • Heat
  • Increased blood flow
  • Friction
  • Pressure on the treated area

6. Avoid Unnecessary Pressure or Manipulation

After procedures such as dermal filler or botulinum toxin injections, avoid unnecessarily rubbing, pressing or massaging the treated area unless you were specifically informed to.

This includes:

  • Rubbing or pressing the treated area
  • Aggressive facial massage
  • Using facial devices without medical advice
  • Applying unnecessary pressure to injection sites

7. Be Careful with Make Up

Whether you can wear makeup immediately after an aesthetic treatment depends on the procedure.

For treatments such as:

  • Microneedling
  • Fractional laser
  • Certain chemical peels
  • Procedures that temporarily affect the skin surface

It is recommended to avoid makeup for 24–48 hours, or until the skin has sufficiently recovered.

Applying makeup too soon may cause unnecessary irritation to recently treated skin.

Good Aftercare Is Part of Good Aesthetic Care

Aesthetic treatment does not simply begin and end in the treatment room. The recovery period is also part of your treatment journey.

Taking care of your skin, protecting it from the sun and avoiding unnecessary irritation can help you navigate the recovery period with greater confidence.

At HATSU Clinic in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, we believe aesthetic treatments should begin with proper assessment and continue with appropriate post-treatment guidance.
